La Dolce Vita: Giandujotto Italian Chocolates

 

At Delivery Italiano, it’s no secret that we love chocolate. But especially the rich and nutty chocolate from Italy.

While chocolate is widely found in the markets and restaurants around Italy today, that has not always been the case. Spaniards actually brought it through the port of Venezia in the 16th century. Upon tasting the delicious treat, the Royal House of Savoy brought it back with them to Turin, the capital Piemonte. And it was here where one of our favorite types of chocolate confections was born and where it is still produced today, Giandujotto Chocolate.

Giandujotto Chocolate is unique in that they are produced from a paste of sugar, cocoa and their signature ingredient, IGP hazelnuts of Piemonte. The addition of hazelnut actually became standard during Napoleon’s reign because the price of cocoa was high. The nut was mixed with original chocolate recipes in order to stretch the cocoa. But in our opinion, this makes for a superior chocolate! If you have never had Giandujotto Chocolate, you are in for a treat. The gorgeous brown box and gold wrapped pieces also make a wonderful gift for Valentine’s Day.
